Must-try cocktails

The cosmopolitan may have been the queen of the cocktails in the ‘90s thanks to Carrie Bradshaw and her New York girl gang, but no longer. We’re turning the classics on their heads and praising the local spots that offer us something a little more creative – did your fave make the cut?

For the dessert lover – If you take your drinks on the sweeter side, you’re sure to fall in love with Glenda’s Salted Caramel and Popcorn Martini at first sip! The recipe may be a secret, but one thing’s for sure … this decadent drink is sure to satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth! It’s not on the dessert section of the menu for no good reason! Hyde Square Shopping Centre, 285 Jan Smuts Avenue, Dunkeld West. Details: 011-268-6369

For the young at heart – Nothing gets the party started like Hudsons’ Berry Press. Served in a French press, this berry-licious drink of gin, sweet and sour and fresh berries topped with soda is a fruity take on the good old gin fizz. Corner of 4th Avenue and 14th Street, Parkhurst. Details: 011-268-0713

For the champagne enthusiast – You know what they say … start the day with a smile and finish it with champagne. Or should we say, Steamworks’ Bubbly Bioshock. This classy sip made with sparkling wine, cherry and plum vodka, white cranberry and cranberry juice is as unique as it exhilarating. Corner of Forest Road and Sunset Avenue, Lonehill.
