Oh what a night ... Best of Joburg reader winners are spoilt at festive dinner
Oh what a night … Best of Joburg reader winners are spoilt at festive dinner

Oyez, oyez, oyez! Readers had their say. The votes have been tallied. And just before the time came to reveal the winners of the Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Awards 2019, our Best of Joburg team hosted some of our reader winners for dinner and spoils. Oh yay, for sure!

So how did some readers get the chance to celebrate with us at our Best of Joburg Reader Winners’ Dinner? The names of all our readers who voted in the Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Awards 2019 were entered into a lucky draw. Those whose names were chosen, along with their partners, were invited to our event.

There was no coincidence why we hosted the special night at Daruma By Oskido in Waterfall Corner. This chic new Japanese restaurant was voted for by Joburgers as the Best New Restaurant. And we can totally see why. Along with our readers, our team enjoyed a sizzling evening of snacking on sushi, watching the chefs cook up a storm on the teppan tables to plate up some amazing teppanyaki dishes – think salmon, kingklip and beef fillet (mmm) – and spoonful after spoonful of delicious deep-fried ice cream for dessert. (But that’s not all. Check out the menu below.)

The sushi was incredibly delicious.
The beef fillet teppanyaki was mouth watering.
Warning: This menu will make your mouth water.

DJ Oskido himself joined us for a portion of the evening as we handed over his certificate (and bubbly – fitting for such a celebration) for Best New Restaurant.

Our reader winners (and our staff members) were taken by the DJ and he obliged to our (many) requests for socials and selfies.

Best of Joburg editor, Daniella Potter, Oskido and Caxton Local Media Joburg North business manager, Norman Dawe.

If there’s one thing that we here at the Best of Joburg HQ know how to do, it’s spoils! And so our readers were not only wined and dined but enjoyed another lucky draw too!

They each pulled a number out of a jar and then came up to collect their prize.

So who were our reader winners and what did they win? Here are the deets:

Matthew Levine wins a luxurious night’s stay for two in the presidential spa suite at Fairlawns Boutique & Spa.
Kerchia Pillay walks away with R20 000 in spar vouchers. Talk about shopping ’til you drop!
Kelly Robinson wins a black DeLonghi kettle and toaster set from Adams Discount Centre.
Kerry Miles wins a Canon Camera to snap away moments spent in Joburg.
Tamar Carzola receives four vouchers for Life Day Spa.
Gcobisa May wins a two-night midweek stay for two at Walkerson’s Hotel and Spa in Dullstroom. She poses here with Oskido.

To top off the evening, they all went home with goodie bags too.

Our Best of Joburg team is hitting the streets over the next few days to deliver prizes to all the businesses and people who won in the competition.
