Anna-Belle’s fave stores

Blogger, Anna-Belle Mulder knows exactly where to go for the best buys in Joburg … and she’s sharing them with us!

Best book shop

A shop on 44 Stanley, L’Elephant Terrible Bookshop, is my pick for best book shop in Joburg. It offers a whole range of vintage African books, still in very good condition. I really enjoy going there.

Best computer/electronics store

Incredible Connection is my go-to for the best electronics. Going there is convenient and the people who work there are helpful. Everything is fast and easy (it’s so convenient).

Best florist

The best florist would have to be Dunkeld Fruit and Flowers. I go there at least once a week because it always has fresh flowers and you can make your own bunch with the selection available.

Best furniture/home décor store

Re-Trend in Linden is the best. It sells a lot of mid-century furniture, which I love. It also features a great deal of South African designers.

Best garden centre

The Garden Shop on Jan Smuts is my pick for best garden centre. I’m actually obsessed and I also go there at least once a week. The flowers there are great and I appreciate the staff – they rock!

Best hardware store

Builders Warehouse. It has a crazy range of everything you’ll ever need, all in one place!

Best home décor store

The place I’d pick for best décor would largely depend on what I’m looking for. I’d say Re-Trend again and the charity shop in Parktown North. The shop gives all the proceeds from sales to charity and the prices are affordable.

Best kitchen essentials shop

Woolworths – it’s functional and trendy. It also generally has what I’m looking for when I’m in the market.

Best online shopping site

When shopping online, I love Superbalist and Zana. Zana is all locally-made and done by two women in Cape Town. Superbalist is great because it sells things you wouldn’t find in the shops. Both these online retailers have a wide range on offer.

Best shopping mall

It’s definitely Sandton City! This is because it has everything you’d want under one roof … all the shops I like to visit are there.

Best shop for life’s little luxuries

Convoy in the Bamboo Centre in Melville is really cool if you want to get yourself an outfit.  All the clothes are made by a South African designer.

Best stationery store

Herbert Evans is by far the best stationery shop because it has everything you could ask for. It’s super convenient and everything is in one place. It even stocks decorations!
