Come hungry to The Texan Wing bar at Monte... | Best of Joburg
The Texan Wing Bar opened it’s doors opposite the Jacaranda studio in Montecasino just a few months ago and it’s clear to see why this American styled saloon is proving so very popular with local patrons.
As the name suggests expect a saloon type vibe complete with hay bales, and loads of wooden fixtures, and you would totally be forgiven for thinking you had accidentally stepped into a Western movie – hey, was that Clint Eastwood we just saw heading to the gents?
They also have huge screen TV’s dotted about so this one venue that is geared towards watching sport. We also loved that their menu caters for the kiddies too – with burgers and shakes to keep little tummies happy.
Come hungry – because you will want to try everything – and the walk up the stairs is just the last little exercise push we needed too. (Don’t worry they do have a lift – but exercise is good for you!)
The view from the outdoor deck at the top of the building is also quite spectacular and looks out over almost the entire casino. If you like to people watch like we do – then get your table out here.
The food is good – and we tried several dishes between our group. The Atomic Poppers were a huge hit (stuffed whole jalapeno peppers in a Budweiser batter, filled with onion and habanero jam, cream cheese and sharp cheddar) as were the Pork Ribs served with homemade fries, as well as the Texan Calamari, lightly tossed a delicious Texan spice.
They offer salads too, as well as burgers and nachos, and the portion sizes are big – however, they are not called a wing bar for nothing though and their wings are delish.
We liked the boneless option (much easier to eat) but of course wings are supposed to get messy, so get your fill of traditional or boneless, hot or not – whatever floats your boat. Wet wipes for the table, please!
The wing sauces are tasty, order the Kung Pao for an Asian twist, or the Hellfire if you like your sauce really hot. The J R U Wing sauce proved to be really tasty and we had a good laugh at the name too!
This is a great family restaurant and serve simple, tasty food to suit just about any palette.
