There can honestly be nothing better than a frozen margarita and a huge plate of nacho’s – comfort food just seems to solve all the world’s problems. We eat Mexican a lot, and are happy to share (sharing is caring after all) some of the coolest spots in Jozi that we are totally crazy about. Check out our Top 3 here…
La Rosa Mexican Grille and Tequileria
Located in Montecasino, La Rosa has to be one of our all time fave Mexican hangouts ever. Why? Their frozen margarita’s come in the cutest little skull mugs, you sort of feel like a ‘hombre’ sipping on your beverage and perusing the menu. Take it one step further and throw on a sombrero, or have your face painted to add to your dining experience.
If you are hanging out at the bar, make sure to get your hands on their bar snacks menu – Totopos will take the edge off your hunger perfectly (fresh tortilla chips with homemade salsa and guacamole on the side) and if you are a sweet toothed creature then churro’s it is – for the win, followed by a BEEEEG grin!

Salsa Mexican Grill
It was really tough to choose our fave Salsa Mexican Grill branch – but after some deliberation we finally selected Parkhurst. Salsa are a no nonsense Mexican from start to finish and the vibe is always great. They often run cool instore competitions and giveaways, and we love the ‘build your own’ menu too – pick what you want on your basic bases, depending on your mood and how hungry you are.
On to the food…nacho’s feature obviously, and we are obsessed with their Fajita Plates as well as the Featured jugs – cocktails for the table totally sorted, and their Strawberries and Dream Taco’s for dessert make our tummies as happy as…well a Mexican Fiesta of course!

Well, with a name like Perron, you really can’t go wrong. Perron in Illovo have been making tummies happy since 2014 and their tapas is unrivalled, in our opinion! In fact they did such a good job that they have opened up two more branches in Bryanston and Melville. Munch on!
Day of the dead parties are epic, dancing on tables is encouraged and the aforementioned tasty tapas shared between friends, of course accompanied by afternoons of sipping margaritas in the sun.
From the menu perspective we are made about the Thompadre Burrito – stuffed full of chargrilled strips of steak with chipotle, spring onions & salsa paired perfectly with a Sol or Corona and you are winning at life.
