The stunning, Ricci-Lee Kalish tells us about some of her fave places around Joburg – think restaurants, art galleries and more!
Best Asian restaurant
I absolutely love Thai Cafe in Greenside … it’s perfectly priced and super authentic, and you can find me there most evenings.
Best beat-the-budget (inexpensive) restaurant
I am always hungry and broke (too much retail therapy!) … so I think BGR at Keyes Art
Mile is the best beat-the-budget, while still being delicious.
Best Greek restaurant
I love Greek food! Personally Parea is always a safe choice. I always have such a great time there! Make sure you go on the evenings where there are belly dancers and the breaking of the plates.
Best hotel restaurant
I am a sucker for the Westcliff side of town. Everything is so beautiful, green and rich in history … so for this very reason, I would say the Four Seasons Westcliff.
Best Italian restaurant
It’s a big toss-up between Franco’s in Parkview which is a truly authentic, family run restaurant which has become an institution in the area and Gemelli in Bryanston. From the exquisite decor to the fusion-inspired dishes, Gemelli has become my go to for everything from birthdays to anniversaries and everything in between.
Best art gallery
There are too many to choose from! I love Kalashnikov’s urban/street/ youth take on high art while Hazard gallery is perfectly situated with the hustle and bustle of Maboneng. And now with the introduction of the Keyes Art Mile, there are galleries just popping up everywhere.
Best cinema complex
I am an absolute movie buff so I jump at the chance to go to any cinema. I personally love
Hyde Park’s Cinema Nu Metro – I don’t know if it’s more about the actual cinema or the fact that there is a number of restaurants to choose from once the movie is done.
Alice Lane’s Virgin Active feels more like a luxury hotel in Hong Kong than a gym. I love that
I get to work out on the rooftop looking over the whole of Sandton.
Best local hotel
I’m all about boutique hotels. There is something so personal and luxurious about them so for that reason, I have to say the Saxon is my go-to.
Best Indian restaurant
Ghazal in Bryanston.
